Professor Andreu showed me how I could sketch out the figure with chalk right on the painting. That tip helped a lot. My earlier attempt at the figure (which I painted over) was monstrous. This one's OK.

I like the thicker, 'paintier' foreground contrasted with the softer background. The river turned out nice, too. Like streams of water braided into a larger thing. It's an easy effect - lay out separate blobs of paint and gel on your pallette then use a big fat brush to sweep them up and onto the canvas. Let the brush strokes blend and swirl them together.

I bought myself a little watercolor travel kit. They're beautiful in the right hands, but different (less forgiving?) than acrylics.

Here's my first attempt - a Tuscan landscape.

It looks a bit like I painted it with crayons. Held between my toes.

My watercolor paper is actually 4" x 6" postcards. So while the lovely landscape was drying, I flipped the page over and doodled this for fun:

I guess it's a mango, sliced in half. It's kinda pretty.
