MRing's artistic endeavors and his insightful opinions thereon.
I wanted a GMail address to go along with this blog, but someone already grabbed SquareStudio. I managed to get AngryDuckStudio at Gmail dot com instead. Not bad, I guess, but as a result I have decided to change the blog's name to match.
No, I have no current plans to change the namesake
Angry Duck painting. It's messy and it's going to stay that way, maybe forever.
Despite a name that makes kids laugh,
peacocks are pretty amazing, at least visually.
A couple things happened here:
1. I thought it would be interesting to do a completely unnatural background for an animal portrait.
2. I found that I couldn't really paint a peacock, but I accepted that fact and did it anyway.
I love his 'WTF?!' facial expression.

OK, the first version was better in some ways. This one (3rd or 4th, depending on how you look at it) is more experimental.
I wanted distinct boundaries between background and subject. There's a lot more motion. It's bolder (silly for a duck, but possible) and more aggressive (but I had sense enough not to actually add teeth).
It's sloppy, but I like it. QUACK!
I've remarked a few times now about how I wish painting had an undo button. Well, sort of , it does! It's called 'more paint'!
I tried to finish
Angry Duck this weekend, but ended really messing it up. The sky was too green, the ground was too childish. So I pressed the undo button and painted over both of them. So, I'm still not finished with that one.
I also worked on my version of the
Magnolia Flower. I was able to undo the squished frog greenery and put in a proper stalk, twig and leaves. I also added more color to the petals, 'cause it's fun. I don't love it, but I'm much happier with it now.
I was so excited the other day to get my first comment.
Unfortunately it was just a list of keyword hyperlinks, apparently to porn sites. While I did get a laugh from some of the link titles ('Bus Driver Whores', anyone?), I promptly deleted the comment and turned a couple of Blogger's comment security features on.
Hopefully that will be the end of that.
