MRing's artistic endeavors and his insightful opinions thereon.
Another ridiculous creation. I was just playing with paint and then stopped. I believe that the upper right corner contains a crowd (school? shoal?) of squid socializing. Seemingly on a surfboard. How very odd. Who would paint such a thing?
Squid Party, Acrylic on canvas board, 12" x 12"
Some paintings are bad. Luckily, some bad paintings can be salvaged. Here's two examples.
A Pear Alone, Acrylic on canvas board, 4" x 5"
I know you'll be shocked, but this began as a colorful mess. Sometimes I paint with no intent -- painting, scraping and smearing until something is revealed. This time, after about 3 layers of paint, I saw the makings of a pear. So I dropped some yellows and greens onto the possible pear-spot and smeared one last time. It easily became a pear! TJ Maxx Home Decor Aisle, here I come! Next up, a lovely still life with wine and cheese!
...Maybe not.
Dead Mouse with Masked Observer, Acrylic on canvas board, 4" x 5"
This began as an abstract with two heavy rectangles connected in various ways. It was muddy and ugly. So I hit it with glossy gel and more paint. Then I gave up, picked the 'correct' orientation and named it based on what I saw. Maybe you see it, maybe you don't.
Someday after I'm famous and gone, a particularly enlightened art historian will write the following:
"M. Ring's Dead Mouse with Masked Observer
takes on the oft-visited theme of man's inhumanity to other
beings. The mask represents man's detachment from the
lingering anthropomorphic sadness of his deceased victim...blah blah
blah."
In summary, sometimes you can save a painting with paint but other times you need some good 'ole American bull pucky!
